Well, the previous walls are the defence of this marvellous fortified Abbey.
Established during the XI century on an ancient Benedictine monastery, the San Nazzaro Sesia Abbey was rebuilt and fortified during the XV century by Barbavara Abbot.

Fondata nel XI secolo su un antico monastero Benedettino, l’Abbazia di San Nazzaro Sesia fu ricostruita e fortificata nel XV secolo dall’Abate Barbavara.

Very nice contrasts in this photo and the building looks beautiful to me.
Ancient buildings are a fascination to those of us who come from countries that are much "younger" than yours.
this picture makes me curious as to want to wonder around this beautiful facility - its color and architecture is quite impressive!
